Project title:
FACILITATING POOR WOMEN TO LIVE VEGAN LIFESTYLE

1—PRINCIPAL DONOR(S):
The Awesome Foundation

2—TIME FRAME:
October 13, 2019 – February 22, 2020

3—PROJECT LOCATION(S):
Bogor, Jawa Barat Province, Indonesia

4—PROBLEMS OR ISSUES TO ADDRESS:
Feminization of poverty so far remains as one of the strategic issues in Indonesia.
Our research shows that:

• Compared to men, the bargaining position of women at domestic level is still very weak. At the same time, women’s social responsibility is much heavier than men's. Consequently women are much more vulnerable to poverty than men. This aggravates gender inequality and inequity that always makes women loose against men.

• The food prices continue to go up violently far above the needy women’s purchasing power. Consequently the needy women’s families have to consume cheapest foods with lowest quality. This triggers higher morbidity among such needy people.

• The needy women’s families are also forced to eat animal waste products whose prices are the lowest such as the bowels, skins, clotted blood, the tongues, etc. This sparks high prevalence of deadly diseases among them.

Based on rigorous studies, we firmly believe that veganism is the most effective, efficient, and eco-friendly solutions in order to release the helpless women from feminization of poverty.

5—STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:

Goal:
To empower female groups facing feminization of poverty in rural and urban areas to live independent vegan lifestyle in order to elevate women’s dignity while reducing poverty and hunger, and protecting the nature.

Main beneficiaries:
The direct beneficiaries of this project will be 30 women being trapped in feminization of poverty and functioning as the breadwinners in their households.

Main activities:
Facilitate each of the 30 beneficiaries to:

(1) Produce 100 kg of organic fertilizers from food waste, waste leaves, etc.

(2) Organically plant, harvest, and replant foods and herbal crops on pots made of waste plastic bottles and bags, as follows:
• 40 pots of bean sprouts (10 pots a day). After the third day, each beneficiary will endlessly harvest it 5 kg a day.
• 90 pots of sweet potatoes (one pot a day). After the 90th day, each beneficiary will endlessly harvest it 1 kg a day.
• 90 pots of potatoes (one pot a day). After the 90th day, each beneficiary will endlessly harvest it 1 kg a day.
• 10 pots of herbal crops such as gingers, turmeric, lemongrasses, to reduce their morbidity.

(3) Recycle the overused pots of the waste plastic bottles and bags into 100 bricks.
